Cleaning of Cargo Tanks' Noxious Liquid Substances

PART # BA02 (25L) 0731851223491 / (200L) 0731851223507

IMO Approved MEPC.2 – Annex 10: Cargo Tank Cleaning Additives

CHARACTERISTICS

ECOSOLUT 24 is a specialized detergent formulation, particularly effective for the cleaning of:

  • Vegetable Oil residues (all grades)
  • Clean Petroleum Products (CPP)
  • Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD)
  • Gasoline
  • Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylenes (BTEX)
  • Hydrocracker Bottoms (HCB)
  • Linear Alpha Olefines (LAO)
  • Fatty Acids Methyl Ester (from soya-bean oil) (FAME)
  • Pitch Tall Oil (PTO)

from cargo tanks by using fixed and portable tank cleaning machines and for manual cleaning through high pressure portable barrel pumps with spray gun attachments. It can also be used for general cleaning of machinery, tools, bilge spaces, galley etc. ECOSOLUT 24 is a proven product for the cleaning of all aforementioned products and similar materials. ECOSOLUT 24 is used at very low dilutions from 1:200 (or 0.5%) to 1:100 (or 0.1%), and is effective from ambient temperature to 60oC or in steam cleaning systems, with increased efficacy at higher temperatures. ECOSOLUT 24 is equally effective in seawater and freshwater. In its concentrated form, the pH of ECOSOLUT 24 is approximately 7, and is safe to use on all types of coatings and stainless steel. ECOSOLUT 24 does not contain aggressive cleaning additives (caustic, acids etc.) and is safe to transport by land, sea and air. ECOSOLUT 24 does not contain solvents.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

Before the use of any cleaning chemical, it is important to remove as much of the previous cargo as possible from the cargo tanks and transfer lines using water, to prevent the excess use of cleaning chemicals with the obvious environmental and financial implications. ECOSOLUT 24 has been specifically designed for use at very low concentrations and every effort should be taken to take advantage of its performance. Typically, cargo tanks should be cleaned as following:

  • Pre-wash with ambient or heated seawater, depending on the chemical characteristics and IMO classification of the previous cargo. Notes: For chemical cargoes that polymerize or contain drying / semi drying oils, the pre-wash should always be carried out with copious amounts of ambient temperature water in order to prevent the formation of a “polymerized” film on the surface of the cargo tanks.
  • For all oil based cargoes, if cleaning cannot start immediately after the cargo tanks are certified as empty, keep the tanks moist / wet by flushing with water and keeping the tanks closed, until cleaning can start. Non-drying oils may be steamed at this time. Continue with seawater washing, using increased temperature (where appropriate), until all previous cargo residues are removed. Continue with ECOSOLUT 24 diluted to 0.5–1% in sea or fresh water for a minimum of 2 hours or 4 washing cycles. Using elevated washing water temperatures increases the efficacy of the cleaning process.

Note: ECOSOLUT 24 is a neutral pH cleaning chemical that will work equally well on organic or more porous inorganic zinc silicate cargo tank coatings as well as stainless steel. Approvals of ECOSOLUT 24 by coating manufacturers are available on request

DOSAGE AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The following suggestions should only be used as a guide, but are based on first- hand experience of cargo tank cleaning. The product requirement for specific cleaning operations could vary depending on the nature of the previous cargo, the degree of contamination and the temperature of the washing water to name the three most common variables. For the removal of vegetable oils from the internal surfaces of cargo tanks using tank-cleaning machines, ECOSOLUT 24 may be used as follows:

  • By recirculation at a dilution rate from 1:200 to 1:100 (0.5–1% by concentration)
  • By injection directly into the tank cleaning line, typically at a rate of 2 – 5L per MT of washing water

For the manual removal of traces of surface contamination use scrubbing or brushing to produce oil free surfaces, ECOSOLUT 24 is particularly effective at concentrations of between 1 and 10% in fresh water (2 – 20L in freshwater) depending on the extent of the contamination. After cleaning, the cargo tanks should be washed out with hot water. In extraordinary circumstances, ECOSOLUT 24 may be used for spot cleaning in its undiluted form. The product can be applied to contaminated areas by manual spraying or brushing, left for 15 – 30 minutes (but never allowed to dry out) and then washed away with high pressure either through a barrel pump or tank cleaning machines.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

For manual removal of surface contamination: High pressure cleaner with heating feature (pressure 30–180 bar), hand-brushes.

RECOMMENDED DILUTION

Typically very low concentrations can be used. ECOSOLUT 24 concentrate is effective at dilutions of 1 part concentrate to 200–100 parts water (i.e. 5–10 litres of concentrate in 1000 litres of water) depending on the degree of contamination.

REQUIRED WATER QUALITY

Sweet water (regular, river or lake water) or salt water.

TEMPERATURE RANGE OF TREATMENT SOLUTION

In general the performance of ECOSOLUT 24 increases with temperature. An application temperature of at least 60ºC or in a steam cleaning system is recommended.

Cold Wash

Medium-Heavy Duty Solvent Based Cleaner for Mineral Oil and Grease

PART # BB02 (25L) 0731851223552 / (200L) 0731851223569

IMO Approved MEPC.2 – Annex 10: Cargo Tank Cleaning Additives

PHYSICAL DATA

Appearance: Clear amber liquid

Apparent Specific Gravity: 0.85 at 20°C

Flash Point: More than 70°C (158°F)

pH (10%): 13 at 25°C

Corrosive action: Metals & Coatings: None. Rubber: Slight swelling

DESCRIPTION

Emulsifying cleaning agent for the removal of medium to heavy mineral oils and fats by spraying and brushing. Based on aliphatic hydrocarbons, non-ionic and anionic surface active agents. It is the most universally applicable product from the series of emulsifying cleaning agents. Safe for use on common metals, epoxy and zinc silicate coatings.

APPLICATIONS

Cooling Systems: Along with the usual lime deposits, traces of mineral oils are often found in cooling systems. These oil and fat deposits hinder optimum removal of the hardness deposits when using acid cleaners (e.g. SAFE DESCALER). In such cases, it is recommended to use an emulsifying cleaner before acid cleaning, to remove these deposits. UNISERVICE COLD WASH is ideal in these cases.

Spraying: COLD WASH can be sprayed undiluted onto the components to be cleaned.

Tanks: COLD WASH can be used for the removal of most mineral oils and fats in cargo or storage tanks (see instruction below).

DIRECTION OF USE

Cleaning of Cooling Systems: Fill the cooling system with an emulsion of COLD WASH and water. Depending on the degree of contamination, 100 litres of cleaning liquid should contain 5-10 litres of COLD WASH. Allow this emulsion to circulate for 12-24 hours at maximum temperature of 60°C. After this operation, drain the cleaning liquid and rinse the system thoroughly with water until the outlet water remains clear. Add cooling water treatment (e. g. UNISERVICE N.C.L.T.) into the system.

Spray Method: Spray the objects to be cleaned until they are thoroughly dampened with undiluted COLD WASH. Let the product react for 20-60 minutes, then rinse the objects thoroughly with water. Note: Objects subject to corrosion should not rinsed with water, use in this case LECTROCLEAN FAST DRY.

DIRECTIONS FOR CLEANING OF CARGO AND STORAGE TANKS

Pre-wash: Before cleaning with COLD WASH, it is recommended to prewash tanks with hot water of approximately 50°C except for crude oil, drying and semi-drying oils where a prewash with cold water should be applied.

Direct Injection Method for Cargo Tanks: Undiluted COLD WASH should be injected at a predetermined rate into the pressure side of the automatic tank cleaning system line on deck by means of an air-operated drum (barrel) pump. Usually an injection rate of 0.1 0.2 liter COLD WASH per 100 liters of tank wash water is sufficient. Cleaning time 2-6 hours. Subsequently rinse with water.

Tank clearing procedure from DPP to CPP/Gas Free

  1. Butterworth for 2-3 hours with sea water close to and max. temperature 50°C.
  2. Butterworth for 2 hours with sea water close to 60° to 70°C in second time.
  3. Create a mixture (5%) of COLD WASH in a slop tank, keep water mixture temp around 80°C and use this water for recirculation inside the cargo tanks. Each tank recirculation for about 2 hours. You may need to change/create new solution, when the water inside slop tank becomes very black.
  4. Butterworth for 1-2 hours with hot (80°C) sea water.
  5. Check the tank for sludge. Whenever sludge is present, you may need to vent and gas-free and then manually demuck the cargo tank, prior giving another 1 hour of hot sea water wash.
  6. Rinse with Fresh water for 30 minutes at ambient temperature. Vent / mop / dry and de-muck as required.

Hand Spraying Method

Spray undiluted COLD WASH on to bulkhead, frames, stringers, longitudinals etc. using an air-operated drum pump connected with a delivery hose and hand spray gun. After a predetermined reaction time, tanks should be rinsed with water using the automatic tank washing machines. For spot cleaning only, use hand held hose for rinsing, for instance a firehose with nozzle. Hand Spraying Method is the most economical system in terms of chemical consumption but requires tanks beeing gasfree enabling men to enter tanks. However, Hand Spraying Method has a practical time limitation depending on tank sizes, i.e. total tank surface to be sprayed.

At Sea Cleaning Method (for Double Bottom Tanks)

Time, temperature and agitation of chemical solution are important factors for the successful cleaning of Double Bottom Tanks.

  1. Heat tank to higher than normal temperature, pump out as much fuel as possible and trim vessel to ensure complete stripping.
  2. Close all valves on engine room manifold.
  3. Introduce first dose of COLD WASH, through the sounding pipe, in accordance with the dosage table stated below and fill the tank to 25% of its capacity with sea water. For filling the tanks it is advised not to use the ballast lines as they may contain fuel oil making the cleaning more difficult.
  4. Heat cleaning solution to minimum 60°C and maintain temperature for 48 hours. If heating coils are not available, live steam may be used for heating the solution and maintain temperature.
  5. Empty tanks completely, fill to 50% capacity and empty again. Where single stage cleaning is used the previous steps are ignored.
  6. Add second dose of COLD WASH and fill tank with sea water to 50% of it’s capacity, continue heating and maintain at this level for 48 hours.
  7. Add further sea water to fill tank to 75% capacity, continue heating and maintain for another 48 hours.
  8. Empty tanks and pressure rinse with clean water through sounding pipes for 1-1 hour under continuous stripping. Pressure should be kept as high as safety permits.
  9. When rinsing is completed stop discharge (stripping) pump and fill tank until clear water runs from sounding pipes on deck.
  10. Stop water supply and empty (strip) tank. Trim vessel to ensure complete stripping.

Note: If tanks are not severely contaminated and/or the fuel oil viscosity is lower than 180 centistokes (cSt) at 50°C the cleaning process should be in one stage using step 5-10 only.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE – PRODUCT DOSE

Tankwashing machines

  • CLEAN BREAK is injected prior to the first hydrant in the hot wash water line at a rate of one litre per ton of hot salt water as follows: -for the last hour of fixed machine cycles -for the last bottom drop cycle using portable machines -throughout spotting cycles with portable machines.
  • A hot wash water temperature of not less than 50°C should be used and should preferably be in the range of 65°C to 80°C.
  • It is important to maintain the tank bottom well stripped during the cleaning operation, since a build-up of wash water will cushion the force of the jet and any sludge and scale built-up in the tank bottom will not be effectively removed.
  • Slops should be constantly stripped from the tanks and transferred to a holding tank. Allow slops to settle and “break” to occur so water may then be decanted.

Direct Spray Application

  • Area to be cleaned should be evenly sprayed, using a nonatomising spray, with neat CLEAN BREAK. Allow a residence time of at least 30 minutes, and up to 2 hours where possible, to ensure good penetration of soiling.
  • Wash down thoroughly all tank surfaces using hot water wash. We recommend a temperature of 65°C to 80°C and a pressure of at least 5,6 kg/cm. 2 (80 psi) should be used.
  • Maintain the tank bottom in a well stripped condition during water wash as build up of wash water will cushion force and effectiveness of jet on tank bottom.
  • Allow slops to settle in a holding tank and “break” to occur before decanting.

Disposal of slops

Slops may be allowed to settle, and then the water decanted. Biologically safe water may be pumped overboard, when permitted by authorities. The oil may be discharged at the next loading port for reprocessing or maintained on board, and the tank utilised as a load-on-top situation.

DIRECTIONS FOR CLEANING OF CARGO AND STORAGE TANKS

Pre-wash: Before cleaning with CLEAN BREAK, it is recommended to prewash tanks with hot water of approximately 50°C except for crude oil, drying and semi-drying oils where a prewash with cold water should be applied.

Direct Injection Method for Cargo Tanks: Undiluted CLEAN BREAK should be injected at a predetermined rate into the pressure side of the automatic tank cleaning system line on deck by means of an air-operated drum (barrel) pump. Usually an injection rate of 0.1 0.2 liter CLEAN BREAK per 100 liters of tank wash water is sufficient.

  3. Create a mixture (5%) of CLEAN BREAK in a slop tank, keep water mixture temp around 80°C and use this water for recirculation inside the cargo tanks. Each tank recirculation for about 2 hours. You may need to change/create new solution, when the water inside slop tank becomes very black.
  4. Butterworth for 1-2 hours with hot (80°C) sea water.
  5. Check the tank for sludge. Whenever sludge is present, you may need to vent and gas-free and then manually de- muck the cargo tank, prior giving another 1 hour of hot sea water wash.
  6. Rinse with Fresh water for 30 minutes at ambient temperature. Vent / mop / dry and de-muck as required.

Hand Spraying Method: Spray undiluted CLEAN BREAK on to bulkhead, frames, stringers, longitudinals etc. using an air-operated drum pump connected with a delivery hose and hand spray gun.

  3. Introduce first dose of CLEAN BREAK, through the sounding pipe, in accordance with the dosage table stated below and fill the tank to 25% of its capacity with sea water.
Where single stage cleaning is used the previous steps are ignored.Add second dose of CLEAN BREAK and fill tank with sea water to 50% of it’s capacity, continue heating and maintain at this level for 48 hours.
  6. Add further sea water to fill tank to 75% capacity, continue heating and maintain for another 48 hours.
  7. Empty tanks and pressure rinse with clean water through sounding pipes for 1-1 hour under continuous stripping. Pressure should be kept as high as safety permits.
  8. When rinsing is completed stop discharge (stripping) pump and fill tank until clear water runs from sounding pipes on deck.
  9. Stop water supply and empty (strip) tank. Trim vessel to ensure complete stripping.

Note: If tanks are not severely contaminated and/or the fuel oil viscosity is lower than 180 cSt at 50°C the cleaning process should be in one stage using step 5-10 only.

Corrosive action: Avoid contact with aluminium, tin, zinc or their alloys.

DESCRIPTION

Strong alkaline liquid degreasing agent for removal of vegetable, fish and animal oils and fats from epoxy/polyurethane coated or stainless steel tanks by injection or circulation method. Thorough saponification and emulsification provides economic removal of vegetable and animal oils. Can be used on most common metals except aluminium, tin, zinc and galvanised metals. Safe to use on epoxy and polyurethane coatings but it is not suitable for use on zinc silicate coatings, most paints and lacquers. Deodorises certain residues.

APPLICATIONS

Steam Boilers: Prior to acid cleaning of steam boilers which are also contaminated with oil and grease or when silicates/calcium sulphates are present it is advantageous to first perform a boil out operation with ALKACLEAN.

Tanks: Suitable for removal of fatty acids, fish oils and other drying or semidrying oil deposits present as residues in storage and cargo tanks. It is very effective on dried oil films. When cleaning from “black oils” to “white oils” and from “black oils” to “grain cargo” it is a useful final treatment.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE – PRODUCT DOSE

Cleaning of Steam Boilers: Fill the boiler with a 5-10% solution of ALKACLEAN in water. Depending on the degree of contamination allow this solution to circulate for 12 to 24 hours at a temperature of 100°C. After this boil out operation completely drain away the warm cleaning liquid and rinse the boiler thoroughly with cold water.

Tank Recirculation method: ALKACLEAN is added to a mixing tank containing a water quantity of 1% of the capacity of the tanks to be cleaned. The solution is heated by using the heating coils in the tanks. The tanks are washed by using a cargo pump after which the solution is recycled to the mixing tank. Usually one solution can be used to wash 2-3 tanks. ALKACLEAN is circulated as a 5-10% solution at 80-90°C for a period of 2-6 hours. After circulation rinse thoroughly with water.

Direct Injection method: Inject 1-2 litres of ALKACLEAN per 100 litres of wash water directly into the tank washing system. The recommended cleaning temperature is 80°C. When completed rinse thoroughly with water.

Closing remarks regarding cleaning: In many cases an after treatment with UNIservice RUST REMOVER solution is recommended for the removal of white lime deposits originating from sea water and/or residues from the cargo. Inject 0.5 litre UNIservice RUST REMOVER per 100 litres of wash water directly into the tank washing system for approx. 20 minutes. The recommended temperature is 7585°C. Finally rinse the tanks thoroughly with cold fresh water.

Boiler Firesides Cleaning: Use a 10% to 20% solution of ALKACLEAN with fresh water. For deposits which are very hard to remove a concentrated solution of up to 50% can be used.

Boiler / Heat Exchangers Water Side Cleaning: Generally the amount required is 4% of the unit capacity depending on conditions, the above dosage may be increase to 5-10%. For cleaning oil contamination from boilers, condensers and other heat exchangers (water side):

  1. Blank off unit to be certain it is isolated.
  2. Drain unit of all water.
  3. Connect steam hose, preferably to bottom of unit.
  4. Connect small recirculating pump, if available. If not, use steam for agitation, vent unit at highest possible point to prevent pressure build-up and allow escape of fumes.
  5. Pour into the unit 4% of ALKACLEAN of the total capacity and certain that all drains are closed so that chemical is not lost.
  6. Add fresh water to the top of tube bundle lever or minimum water level boilers.
  7. Heat to at least 60C° (140 °F) and recirculate for a minimum of 12-24 hours after temperature is attained.
  8. After heating and recirculation or agitation, dump the solution from the unit.
  9. On boilers, flush each tube with fresh water in order to remove oil residues.

ADVANTAGES

Uniservice Unisafe ALKACLEAN SAFETY is specifically designed to improve cleaning efficiency while overcoming the limitations imposed by caustic based cleaning compounds. ALKACLEAN SAFETY can also be used as a deodorizing wash in all applications.

Saponifying animal and vegetable oils and fats: Saponification is the alkali induced process of splitting animal and vegetable fats to form a soluble soap. ALKACLEAN SAFETY breaks oil into fine droplets which are saponified easily.

Emulsifying mineral oils and greases: Oils which cannot be saponified are removed by emulsification. ALKACLEAN SAFETY homogenizes grease, oil, and fat particles into small sizes and disperses them evenly in water. Particles are kept segregated and prevented from recombing and reattaching to the cleaned surface.

De-flocculation: Solid dirts are not removed by saponification or emulsification. ALKACLEAN SAFETY breaks up agglomerated masses into very fine particles which repel each other.

APPLICATION

Our general recommendations are for cleaning tanks for edible cargos to a degree of cleanliness where no contaminants are to be tolerated in the next cargo. Recirculate or inject ALKACLEAN SAFETY at 5% strength in fresh water after the tanks have been stripped and rinsed. Modified procedures are required with drying oils. ALKACLEAN SAFETY can also be applied neat in spray applications followed by a rinse. • Suitable in sea and in fresh water
  • Easy to apply
  • Has no objectionable odour
  • Low toxicity: contains no ethoxylated nonylphenol (NF)
  • Biodegradable
  • Does not create pollution
  • Economical to use
  • Very effective cleaning action
  • Does not require special handling or storing

APPLICATION

UNICLEAN DRASTIC is a versatile cleaner. It is especially well suited for machine cleaning and for use in high-pressure spry guns. It is an excellent cleaner for general deck, engine room and steward used such as cleaning bulkheads, tank tops, bilges, machinery, engines, tools, kitchens, galley, etc. Before using UNICLEAN DRASTIC make sure the tanks and lines are well stripped and drained. A proper pre-cleaning will reduce the amount of product required. Flush the tank with ambient seawater to remove remaining cargo to slop. Tanks containing drying or semi-drying oils such as vegetable and animal fats should be flushed or pre-washed or moistened as soon as possible after completion of discharge to prevent formation of hard residues. An individual cleaning operation is recommended for each type of cargo. Recycle tanks with increasing temperature for 2-8 hr, depending cargo and size of tank. This is a very important operation, as it will remove oily-mud and residues in the coating. The temperature used for pre-cleaning will depend on whether the cargo is drying, semi-drying or non-drying, and the cargoes melting point. Due to the fact that the zinc is porous, a prolonged pre-cleaning with lower temperature is highly advisable prior to introduction of chemicals on such lining.

DOSAGE AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE

For general degreasing and cleaning, apply UNICLEAN DRASTIC with a 2-10% concentration in water (from 1 to 10-50 parts water) by brushing or swabbing. Allow the product to penetrate for approximately 5 minutes, and then rinse with water to provide a clean, film-free surface.

When mechanically cleaning with high-pressure spray equipment, apply UNICLEAN DRASTIC with a 0,5% concentration in water (1 part UNICLEAN DRASTIC to 200 parts water). When cleaning is complete flush tanks with large amount of warm seawater (2-3 hr) to remove any residual chemicals. Then flush tanks with freshwater to remove salts, mop and dry.

For machine cleaning of tanks using mechanical spraying units, UNICLEAN DRASTIC should be injected into the wash water supply line at a rate of 2 to 8 liters per ton of water.

For bilge cleaning and cleaning of other contaminated areas, UNICLEAN DRASTIC should be dosed at the rate of 1 liter per ton of bilge capacity or water used. These recommended dosages should be used only as a guide. The chemicals requirements for each cleaning will vary depending on the temperature, the nature and degree of contamination.

Tank Cleaning - Maintenance  BB10

Ultrasonic Multicleaner
Bio Control F.O.T. by Uniservice Unisafe srl Italy

General Purpose Detergent Water Based.

Ultrasonic Multicleaner

General Purpose Detergent Water Based

PART # BB11 | 0731851223699

PHYSICAL DATA

Appearance: light yellow

Flash point (PM CC): none

pH (1% solution): approx. 11,5

Specific gravity (20°C): 1.19

Contains: approx. 8% sodium hydroxide

DESCRIPTION

  • Suitable for use on all common metals (except zinc and some magnesium alloys)
  • Designed for ultrasonic equipment
  • Easy to dispose
  • Low foaming so can be used in cleaning machines (Bumpy Cleaners)

The cleaning of heavily contaminated fuel and lubricating oil filter, cylinder heads and aircoolers often give problems. The use of a cleaning agent only is generally unsatisfactory as only a part of the deposits will be removed, and in most cases carbon residues and other solid materials will be left behind. In such cases the use of ultrasonic sound waves in combination with a special cleaning agent gives good results. The contamination will be removed by the ultrasonic process in the liquid. The special detergents in the cleaning agent keep the contamination dispersed in the liquid and the complexing agents will partly dissolve them. ULTRASONIC MULTI CLEANER has been developed for use in ultrasonic baths for the cleaning of all materials except zinc, galvanised parts and/ or magnesium alloy.

APPLICATION

ULTRASONIC MULTI CLEANER is used in ultrasonic cleaning baths and in cleaning machines.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE - PRODUCT DOSE

Ultrasonic Cleaning Bath: The components to be cleaned can, if necessary, be degreased with COLDWASH or CLEAN BREAK or LECTRO CLEAN FAST. Depending on the degree of contamination. ULTRASONIC MULTI CLEANER should be used in a 5-25% solution in water at a temperature of 50-70° C. Dismantle the equipment to be cleaned (i.e.: remove top and bottom rings from filtercandles), put the components in the bath taking care that the elements are completely immersed and kept separate. We recommend a cleaning time of 5-30 minutes but longer if necessary. Take the elements out of the bath and spray with a powerful water-jet. After drying, TANKOTE or NAVALAN 402 can be used to preserve the elements. The cleaning solution has to be renewed and the bath cleaned regularly, because in a contaminated bath the parts cannot be cleaned effectively.

Cleaning Machines: ULTRASONIC MULTI CLEANER is, depending on the nature and degree of contamination, applied in an approx. 4% solution in cleaning machines. The contaminated object must be placed in the machine and cleaned for 30-60 min. at a temperature of 8090° C. Finally rinse with water.

PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

ULTRASONIC MULTI CLEANER is a low foaming mild alkaline liquid. It can be used on all common metals except zinc, galvanised materials and some magnesium alloys. We advise to test light-metal alloys (aluminium / magnesium alloys etc.) i.e. pistons, tur- boblower parts etc. in advance for 5-10 minutes. Suitable for use on synthetic materials, rubber and cured lacquers.

PHYSICAL DATA

Appearance: Clear yellow liquid

Flash point: 72ºC

Freezing Point: -20ºC

Specific gravity (15°C): 0.84

Viscosity @20ºC: 9.5 cSt

Corrosive action: No attack on common metals

DESCRIPTION

Liquid compound containing surface active agents and very low toxicity solvents.

  • Biodegradable
  • Very low toxicity
  • Fast and effective usage

APPLICATION

  • Dispersal and clearance of accidental oil spills of mineral oil: crude oil, kerosene, residual fuel oil, white spirit, diesel fuel oil, lubricating oils
  • For use on oil spills that may occur during loading and discharging of cargo or bunkers.
  • For use at sea, in harbours and on around offshore structures.

ADVANTAGES

  • Ready for use product: direct application.
  • Rapid action: converts hydrocarbons into very fine emulsions.
  • Accelerates the chemical breakdown of the oil fractions by marine bacteria.
  • Licensed by local Authorities whenever applicable.
  • Biodegradability of the dispersant better than 90% within 21 days.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Oil spills on water

  • Contain any floating oil spill where possible, using an oil boom surround.

  • If oil layer is thick, pump or skim off as much as possible.

  • When as much oil as possible has been taken off, or if spill cannot be contained, apply ECODIS neat. (Consult Product Dose for quantities required).

  • For small areas, apply by spray using a portable hand spray gun and extensions. Allow some time for oil to absorb ECODIS, then disperse mixture by agitating with water from fire hoses or by using mechanical means of agitating.

  • For large areas use as follows:

A) using spraying equipment connected to the sides of a motor launch (ensure the spray is directed over spill before the wake becomes turbulent).

B) using spraying equipment connected to a helicopter (helicopter should be kept at a height where down-draught from rotors does not cause the slick to break up whilst spraying). After spraying allow, where possible, time for the oil to absorb ECODIS, then disperse mixture by agitating.

Oil spills on decks, rocks, beaches, etc.:

  • Remove as much of the oil as possible, by using an oil absorbent powder or similiar.
  • Spray ECODIS over the area covered by the oil and allow some time for it to be absorbed into the oil (consult Product Dose for quantities required).
  • Disperse the mixture with water either by means of a fire hose, or for certain beaches and rocks by natural tidal wash action.
  • Where oil marks are not recent, several applications may be necessary.

PRODUCT DOSE

Dosage of ECODIS depends upon the type and quantity of the oil composing the spill. We recommend the following:

  • Regular crude oil (thin layer): use 1 volume of ECODIS for 10 volumes of oil.
  • Heavy hydrocarbon oil (or thick layer): use up to 1 volume of ECODIS for 4 volumes of oil.
